Eight of the grouse recieved in 1959 were in poor condition and unable to fly upon release at the Ashland Wildlife Research Area and Daniel Boone Memorial Forest. This was attributed to prolonged confinement after trapping in order to ship several birds together (Lewis et al., 1968)
